One of the most common problems associated with
commercial and industrial doors is hinge failure. Mason product
designers sought to develop hinges and methods of fixing hinges in
the door leaf and the door frame which would not fail under
prolonged heavy usage.
Mason Sound Lock acoustic fire rated doors and
frames fitted with Mason hinges were installed in the Mason cycle test
rig. This apparatus mechanically opens and closes the door through
80 í and can be programmed to repeat the
opening and closing cycle as many times as required or until failure
of the doorset.
Doorsets fitted with Mason heavy-duty hinges
were cycle tested to 250,000 cycles. On completion of the tests the
hinges and the hinge fixings in the door and the frame were found to
show no sign of damage or failure.
The test procedure was carried out in
accordance with ISO 9379 -1989 (E) Test for Door Hinge Durability.
